Metal Mondays: "After the Ending" by Conway and Staton

Greetings, Groove-ophiles! With Metal Men #54 (July 1977) Gerry Conway returned as writer, teaming with now-regular artist Joe Staton for stories that were still a bit wacky, but not quite as idiosyncratic former author Martin Pasko's. Oh, and dig the guest-appearance by Hal Jordan-- Green Lantern! Joe Staton's dream was to draw Green Lantern, and this story was Joe's second shot at the Emerald Gladiator (the first one you can read here). Soon, Joe would be drawing GL's short-lived series in the early Dollar Comics issues of  Adventure Comics, which would lead to a long stint on Green Lantern and Green Lantern Corps during the late 70s/early 80s. But all of that's way in the future! Let's go back to the Summer of 77 and dig on "After the Ending"!

  1. Joe Staton has always been the guy I associated most with Green Lantern since he was the artist on most GRÜNE LEUCHTE comics I read as a kid. Is there a DC SHOWCASE of his METAL MEN available ?

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!
