Groove's Faves: "Kongzilla!" by Robbins and Evans

Check it out, Groove-ophiles! Sick humor from DC's PLOP! #1 (June 1973). It's one of those stories that's so obvious that you can't figure out why you never thought of it yourself, but done up with such enthusiasm and panache that you can't help but enjoy it. Of course, what else would you expect from two old pros like Frank Robbins and George Evans? Run for the hills! Here comes..."Kongzilla!"

  1. That witch in the upper left-hand corner of the first page looks suspiciously like the witch from the old Bugs Bunny cartoons. Was she moonlighting? Tryin' to earn a little extra scratch on the side?

    1. That's Eve, who hosted PLOP! along with Cain and Abel, as drawn by Sergio Aragones. (I'm pretty sure that's Sergio's art pasted into the story.) Eve also hosted DC's horror anthology "Secrets of the Sinister House" in the '70s as Cain hosted "House of Mystery" and Abel hosted "House of Secrets." Yeah, it was all a bit of a mess.
