Groove's Faves: "The Plot to Destroy Washington D.C.!" by Fleisher, Kirby, and Wood

Hey, hey, hey, Groove-ophiles! I'm gonna give it to ya straight: I'm writing this post before the election returns start rolling in, so the fact that I'm running "The Plot to Destroy Washington D.C.!" from Sandman #6 (September 1975) ain't Ol' Groove goin' political on ya, okay? It's just a wacky-cool story by a first class team of creators, namely writer Michael Fleisher and artists Jack Kirby and Wally Wood, and I truly think yer gonna dig it! Dig?

  1. Wow, I never knew that Kirby and Wood teamed up again in the 70s. They were such a chalk and cheese combo as artists, but I really like the results.

  2. does anyone know if this has been reprinted in any of the Kirby Omnibi yet?

  3. I had an issue of this comic. Maybe two. So so strange. It not only seems like it was written for little kids, it seems to have been written BY little kids. "Ejection tube" marked. The characters living in labeled jars. The Sandman's job seeming to involve watching one person. Did he have any ability except blowing the whistle? What an awful comic. But it's fun to see it here.

  4. Oh wow, thanks! I used to love the Sandman, especially that he didn't seem to "exist" in the standard DC universe. And this is an issue I never had! Woo-hoo!

  5. Yes! Legendary penciller/inker combo - getting together late in their careers for one last time - ahem excuse me, I think I have some dust in my eye...

As for the rest of ya, the purpose of this blog is to (re)introduce you to the great comics of the 1970s. If you like what you see, do what I do--go to a comics shop, bookstore, e-Bay or whatever and BUY YOUR OWN!
